Interior Design Boards - Are They Worth The Investment?

One of the questions I get asked frequently is what do I get when I hire you for a design board? Hiring a designer is an investment for anyone on any budget. You are investing and putting your trust in your designer to come up with a comprehensive plan (Design Board) that you can execute yourself or the designer can implement totally for you. But are interior design boards worth it and why? Do you really need one or can you just go through Pinterest and put it all together yourself?

Avoid Mistakes & Saving Money

Purchasing decorative items for your home is an investment. Quality paint, textiles (pillows, bedding, curtains), furniture, decorative accents, etc. We all work hard daily at our jobs and we want to be intentional about what we spend our money on. Each one of us has probably gone off shopping at Home Goods and seen the latest design trend and thought, "Oh, I love that". So, you purchase it without knowing exactly where it is going to be placed in your home. Once you get it home, it just does not fit with your home and your overall style, so you move it here and there to try and make it fit. Then the following year you place it on FB Marketplace to sell.

This is where an Interior Design board would come in handy. The design board will give you the overlook that you and your designer have worked on together to fit your style and the desired look you are looking for. You avoid mistakes that you will want to redo and you will have wasted your time, energy, and money. Paint colors, lighting, furniture, and the overall style will be selected, and then the decor items. You are not wasting your money on things that will not go into your home and it is also saving you time. The designer will also provide you with discounts from different manufacturers that you are unable to obtain on your own. This can also save you a great deal of money.

Professional Knowledge

A designer uses their professional knowledge to express the development of ideas and concepts in your design board. It is the first step your designer does to get the overall feel for the project. This is tailored to your specific needs and they will use their knowledge of paint colors (LRV), textiles, and design styles that will fit your home and make it unique. A designer has eyes that are detailed and specially trained to see issues that can arise that you may not. Taking advantage of their skills helps you to have a cohesive look in your home.

Future Planning

Design boards are not only for the moment but also for future planning. A designer may design two or more rooms in your home at one time. Due to budget and time, you may not be able to implement every room. Your design boards are like maps that you can follow on your timeline. This guarantees that your overall look will be blend when you or your designer complete all of the projects. I always suggest that you start with at least two design boards if they are in your main living area. This gives you an overall starting map to follow as you begin the process. This may take 3 months to a year to complete but you continue to reference the overall design aesthetic. A good designer will give you up to three changes on your design board as they are being created or you can use them as you are implementing it in your home.

These are just three reasons that I feel an overall design is important before you start and the interior design board is an investment that will make your home decorating a little easier on your time, and budget, and help you not to make those large costly mistakes.
