Loving My Home at Christmas
Updated: Aug 24, 2023
This is our first year in our new home in Virginia. Transitioning to three different homes in a matter of two years has been really crazy and trying in many ways on the whole family. But it has been a good crazy, if ya know what I mean.
We moved and lived with my parents for about two months before our home was ready. I wouldn't say that was too trying on us but I am sure it was for my parents. They were so gracious to open their home to us during the Summer. It was a great Summer that I will cherish being with them. Sometimes those big steps and hard times can be such a blessing. That time with my parents will always be a time I will keep in my memories.
So here we are five and a half months later in our home and we are truly blessed. Moving and decorating for Christmas was a little more challenging this year. Moving and organizing and finding a home for all those items you moved and getting rid of more. Before I knew it it was time to decorate for Christmas. I will say it was a joy and so much fun to find a new theme for our home.
I shared in a earlier post that my theme this year was blues, birds and berries. It really came together and I wanted to share how it all came out. So, here is a little Christmas house tour. I sure hope you enjoy it as much as I did decorating it.
I went a little nontraditional this year on our stairwell. Living in Texas and Oklahoma we had one level homes so I never really invested in garland. So, I decided to do homemade swags to go with theme instead that were more budget friendly this year. I love the way they turned out. I added our stocking here since our fireplace is outside on our indoor/outdoor porch.
Adding the blue ribbon, blue berry and a small on each stocking really made them come to life.
I brought out my winter Hummels that my father has bought me over the years to add the accent of winter and the lovely touch of blue in his jacket. He is playing his horn to celebrate the birth of our Savior on Christmas.
I ordered some winter scenes from Etsy and put them in existing frames too bring a touch of winter into my home. We are sure are looking forward to some snow here in Virginia this year. Maybe not as much as in the picture though.
Our family room tree was not tall enough this year but we decided that we had other areas of the house we wanted to invest in, so I put the tree on top of the bed risers. Wow, it worked perfectly. Here is a link to the ones I used. Definitely made the tree taller. Next year, we will invest in a taller one and move this one to the loft.
This year has definitely been a fun one with decorating. Adding a few things here in there to our new home sure made it feel warm and inviting.
Blue is definitely my year round signature color. Defining the signature color in your home you can make Christmas transition really easy so you do not have to change up everything.
I made this gingerbread chalet from Trader Joes and added some sliced almond to it and some pretty white puff paint and crystal sprinkles. Made it more three dimensional.
Once again I added some blue winter berries a cute blue and white figure that my daughter thrifted for me. It could not be more perfect.
This bell never leaves my kitchen. I gave this bell to my Gram when I was younger and it always sat on her kitchen table. She collected bells and I found this hotel reception bell at an antique store. My children and her over 50 grand and great grand children played with this bell. Her birthday is in December and I always ring it for her birthday. I guess it could use a little polishing but I sort of love the old tarnished look.
Little vignettes on consoles in the same color scheme and ornaments bring the house all together. Here are a few more pictures.
Dining Room table scape following the theme.
New from the kitchen of all the Christmas sparkle.
A small tree in my office on top of an ottoman to give it height. Always use what ya have.
Bird, Berries and Blue - definitely a favorite theme - sure I will use it again next year with a few tweeks.
