Not every DIY project has to take days or more. It is so satisfying to get one done in a day. I bought this Bassett round mirror on Facebook Marketplace and had a vision for it. It was somewhat dated with the gold and black and was sort of was giving me Tuscany vibes. The round shape over my console table in the foyer would soften up all the sharp angles from the black gallery wall frames and the floor to ceiling shiplap.

I first started searching on line and the prices were a lot more than I wanted to spend. I found the perfect round look I was searching for at Ballard Designs.
My home as a traditional design with a touch of coastal and mirror was perfect. But price tag was not. (LOL)

So off to Facebook Marketplace to see if I could recreate a dupe that would not break the bank.
This mirror is very traditional and has a great look but the black was too harsh for my foyer and the gold was a little over the top as well.
You can see from the square mirror I had there before that gold is definitely the metal I love best. Changing it to a round and softening it was going to give me exactly what I was searching for.
I started by adding some paints that I had on hand and built up the color and added some dry brushing to the gold areas. I then used a cabinet paint that I purchased from Amazon. As an Amazon Associate, I earn a commission from qualifying purchases. This color is called Tidal Haze and is the perfect coastal blue. Will share another project I am working on with this product in the next blog post.

Here is a close up of the gold areas. I sanded down some areas with a sand block some to make it look more aged and added some rub and buff to cut the bright gold look.
If you have never used rub and buff you are missing out. This is a go to craft supply that I always have on hand. My favorite shade is Antique Gold. It gives that aged look without being too yellow/orange.
Here are a few pictures of the process. I did not tape off any areas, just did it free hand and it really came out wonderfully and the best part is it only took me a few hours. I am not always a patient person so this was right up my alley. I can not wait to show you the next DIY project in the works.
